What personal data I collect and why I collect it


When visitors leave comments on the site I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.


If you upload images to my website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact Forms

Any contact forms contained within ShaunThomas.uk are provided to either directly Contact Shaun or to sign up to services that may be provided by ShaunThomas.uk, those contact details are contained within the confines of the site when used to sign up sor services.

Shaun may from time to time (with prior consent granted) retain the email address of a particular user in order to converse with them via email outside the confines of the site, a request to keep copies of all those personal emails can also be made by the user, by default all emails of a persoanl nature are generally deleted within 12 months or their receipt.


If you leave a comment on my site you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit my login page, the website will automaticall set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, the system will also automatically set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

I use Google Analytics in order to monitor basic data including IP Address, Pages Vsited, Length of stay, this data is used purely to improve the future features and content of the site.

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so the system can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on my website (if any), I also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where I send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Your personal data is not used for any other purpose and therefore remaints held within the system.

Your contact information is used only to contact you regarding updates or new postings to the website, you will need to opt-in to any Newsletter or Email notification service.

How I protect your data

Every care is taken to ensure I only work with a web hosting provider that provides secure datacentres and the stricktest of Data Control policies to ensure my site complies with all current and future Privacy Legislation, all Personal Data is held offsite and no Personal Data is held within my premises.

Whilst I can access that Personal Data it is only used within the confines of my site and with your prior consent which will need to be granted by  opting in.

SSL Certification Services are provided by Cloudflare.com NO personal data is held by them, and no data is available to me with regards to SSL Certification ensuring your Privacy and Security even more when visiting.

What third parties I receive data from

I receive no Personal Data nor Data of any form from any third party website and or organisation.
